Return from Mexico

Hot Nights in Mexico

Hola! Andrew and I are back from Mexico. We got in late last night and I have been scurrying around unpacking, doing laundry, returning emails and trying to get back to the real world. There should really be a full day of after-vacation vacation where you get to do nothing but absorb everything you experienced while away, let it settle in. Especially in a world so polar opposite from Winter Park. It was near 100 degrees F in Mexico yesterday. We returned to our snow-covered cabin in 27 degrees.

My mind is kind of whirling, not really ready to concentrate on work (though it needs to be). I was anxious to get home near the end of our trip, yet I could have used more time to explore Tulum and its surrounding areas. The most beautiful things we saw in our entire week we experienced just 24 hours before our departure, thanks to a friendly cab driver named Antonio, whom we'd wished we met four days earlier.

But it is nice to be back home, cozy in the cold woods after so much sun and sweat. See how shiny my face is in that picture up top there? It was consistently that shiny all week. I have decided that my body was not meant for perennially tropical weather. Hence all the laundry I have to do today...

I will post more photos to flickr as the week goes on, and give a comprehensive report of our anniversary vacation. As well as some info on Maggie's wild and crazy adventure with Rocky and Paddi. Though I think Daphne, officially Sainted by me for her week watching my behaviorally challenged pup, would do a much better job detailing it.

Anniversary

Friday, October 20 is our 5th anniversary. We will be celebrating it here beginning tomorrow. I've never been to Mexico, don't know any Spanish (save from what I learned watching Sesame Street) and I'm pale as a ghost--so I feel a bit ill-prepared, but what the hey. It's time to celebrate. Andrew and I haven't been anywhere tropical since our honeymoon in Antigua (where we WILL return one day, maybe for our 10th?). Flying to that part of the Caribbean is pretty darned inconvienient from here, what with transfers galore and heavy costs. Which is why most westerners spend their vacations in Mexico. It's a quick flight and cheap to boot.

Tulum is located 2 hours south of Cancun on the Mayan Riviera, and is home to some ancient Mayan ruins, as well as sea turtles, dolphins, tropical birds and further south, monkeys. We plan to do some kayaking, or snorkeling, or hiking, but probably not all three. Most of our time will be spent on the beach sipping margaritas and soaking up the sun (it's dark at 6pm here already!)

When we get home, it will in all likelihood be snowing or recently snowed in Winter Park. Ski season is only a month away!

And what about Maggie? Maggie will be staying chez les deux Beagles, where Rocky has a new roomate named Paddi. Paddi is a foster Beagle, but rumor has it she just might stick around permanently. Maggie is going to have a grand old time.

I won't have much, if any, access to the digital world, so please don't dispair if I don't answer emails til after October 23. When I return, I will have photos. We finally replaced my broken camera this weekend. Weee!

¡Buenos dias!
