Pink Curlers and Garland

1970s Christmas Eve

Here's a pic that my Aunt Dot sent me, circa 1979. That's me in the middle with the big ears. Luckily I grew into them a bit!

My Mom was always setting our hair in these curlers the night before a holiday or special event. Pink plastic & foam. Not very comfortable, but the result was gorgeous.

There's another storm in town (currently subsided, but it may return for round 2). It could last through Sunday. Should make our New Year's Eve bonfire pretty interesting! If Andrew can find the fire pit under all that snow...

Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays!

Wow, Christmas came and went so fast this year. And completely differently as planned. The "Holiday Blizzard" in Denver snowed us in, and snowed our family out. Andrew's parents were scheduled to arrive on December 22 but a closed airport wouldn't allow that to happen. The earliest they could get a new flight was today, December 27. So their visit will be rescheduled.

Despite that let down, we had great fun in the snow... all 26 inches of it. I took a powder lesson on Thursday and learned that I need to "ski taller, please" from my German ski instructor. I fell a LOT but it didn't hurt a bit--not til 24 hours later, when my muscles were sore from all the getting up out of the quicksand-like fluff. Friday we skied again but I was so sore I didn't last very long. Saturday we cleaned and prepped for the holiday, then Maggie's favorite Beagle family came to visit after their day on the slopes. We convinced them to return the following day to join us for Christmas Eve Dinner at Sunspot and the Torchlight Parade. And they did. Much Beagle celebration was to be had. And much wine.

Christmas Day our friends left around 11am and Andrew then gave me my gifts. I gave him a few, but he's really holding out for Playstation3. Then we trekked over to the ski hill again and took a few runs, meeting up unexpectedly with other friends. It was cold. But I did see Santa skiing on Over 'n Underwood, amazing he had energy after being up all night!

After skiing I had to try and find some produce and meats from our local supermarket, which had been shopped dry over the past few blizzardy days. Then I rushed home to watch the Eagles defeat the Cowboys, and make Christmas Dinner. We had a tenderloin roast with a red wine reduction, garlic mashed potatoes and green bean casserole. Maggie approved of the leftover scraps.

Photos of all this and more have been uploaded to my flickr page, as well as Thanksgiving pics and other wintry things. I think I uploaded 400 photos last night. Enjoy!
