Brrrrrrrr!

Today when I walked Miss Maggie May, the thermometer on the porch read -17 F. Luckily she did her business quickly and we headed back inside within minutes. Unfortunately this leaves her with a lot of pent up energy for the rest of the day, and I haven't been working from home where I can help her out with that. As a result, she's rather bi-polar.

I have been working on and off in the offices of Grand Elk, located 20-25 minutes northwest of Winter Park. Make that 45 minutes if it's snowing. It's a consultant gig, and they are officially my third of four local clients. The buzz is getting around about this Kate Hamilton girl, the girl who designs and illustrates and likes penguins. Some of the locals are all suspicious like, they don't take kindly to them kinds 'round here. Or at least, they don't like outsiders coming in and getting local business. :)

Ah well, what I can I do? I need to eat too!

My birthday ended up being quite lovely, I was surprised when Andrew took me to one of our favorite places for dinner, and 15 of our closest friends showed up. It was truly a great surprise. It was awesome to see so many people that I've only known a year--or less--care about me. I then proceeded to drink a gallon of wine and felt sorry for it the next day when I tried to ski. Funny how dehydration will make your legs completely useless up here.

I have so much to be grateful for this year. My loving husband who loves to surprise me. My new friends who feel like old friends. The work that is finally (finally!) coming in, keeping me busy and getting us back on track. My health, my legs (however dehydrated) and my ability to ski on them. The health and love of my family back east. These mountains and the secrets they whisper when the light hits just right. The abundant snowfall we've had so far this season. And the many ways to slide around in it.

Oh, and always, good wine.

Happy Birthday to Me

Today I am 33. And I feel a bit like rubbing my eyes about it.
