Do You See That?

Sniffing Snow
Originally uploaded by Kate Hamilton.

I know this is not a great photo, as Mommy took it with her camera, but do you see? Do you see? It has snowed. And it is still snowing, right now. In September. Can you believe it?

I had barely forgotten what snow was, I was just about to. I was not so sure I wanted to step in it when some fell last weekend. But it disappeared so quickly that I barely sniffed it before it was gone. Not this time, nope. It is really, really snowing. If you do not believe me, ask my Mommy.

Oh joy! I can not wait until the snow piles up so high you can barely see the houses! So high that I can climb on top of the piles and see the whole world! Summer was great and we did have some fun, but snow is just the best, no matter what the season. Even snow in summer.

Puppy Licks, Samantha

Samantha 'n Rocky in the Kitchen
Originally uploaded by Kate Hamilton.

I am sad.

My Mommy found out a week ago that my Beagle BFF Samantha had gone to sleep.

And she would not be waking up.

This was all very sudden, and all very late, because Samantha went to sleep two weeks before Mommy found out. And she was sick a whole week before that. And I did not know it.

Three weeks before Samantha went to sleep, I saw Samantha and her brother Rocky at their house. We had a great time. And I never got to write about it, not until now. And Mommy's camera was broken, and so she never took any pictures of us. I am sad.

When we visited Samantha and Rocky, we played Beagle games. We ran around their grassy Beagle yard as fast as we could (I was much faster, I am still 90% puppy)! We drank slopplily from the water bowls and begged for treats. We took turns sleeping with the people in their big people beds. We scratched at the back door to get out, then barked outside the door to get back in. Again and again. It was the BEST.

Rocky and I have our differences. He wants to be boss, and so do I. And he is not afraid to let me know it. And I am not afraid to let him know it back. And when Samantha saw us start to argue, she would come in and mediate. Always with a smile on her face. I have never seen another dawg smile so much!

Samantha was 10 years old when she went to sleep. Beagles can live to be 15 years old. I hope that Rocky lives to be 23 years old so I can be 15 with him.

Arrroooooo!!!! Princess Samantha Pants! I will miss you, but I will see you again someday.
