Being a Big Sister

Circle of Sniffs
Originally uploaded by Kate Hamilton.
It is not so bad. I mean, I still have my Mommy, my Daddy and my toys, but I have to let Butters play with them too. It is not easy, believe me, but I think I am getting the hang of it. Just so long as he remembers that I was here first and I am the Boss.

I do have a trick to keep things straight, when Mommy gives Butters a "puppy" toy (these seem to be softer and easier to chew up than my "big girl" toys), I am sure to bite and lick and chew it before he has any time to make it his. Once I am done licking the new smell off the toy I let him have it. Unless I have gotten carried away and already chewed the toy to bits. They should really make them stronger for my fierce teeth.

Butters does not know much so I find I have to show him a lot. Like the fact that there are so many good things to sniff in the snow. And that treats are worth sitting for. And that weird noises outside the house are suspicious and need to be barked at for safety reasons. And that comfort is very important. And that I was here first and that I am therefore the Boss of him.

I do not think he is going anywhere anytime soon. But I do not mind.

Now I Know What "It" Is!

I do not even know where to start. First my BFFs Rocky and Paddi came to visit on Friday, and we played and walked together and slept too. Then they went home the next day, and Mommy and Daddy went away in the Ride for a while. It seemed like forever, especially for a Daddyday (aka Saturday). When they came back I was so happy to see them. But they came back all weird. First Daddy came in and went to the bathroom. Then he went back outside. Then Mommy came in and put my leash on. Oh yay, a walk! But she sure did smell funny. She smelled very strongly of Other Doggies.

We went on our walk and I could tell she was in a hurry. When we got back, I could smell more Other Doggy smells in the house! They led me over to my old Cave (which I hate), and there inside was...

...an Other Doggy.

They called him "Butters."

He let me sniff him then he licked my nose. He smelled like a baby, like my littermates smelled when I was a baby. He seemed a little shy so I introduced myself.

I made sure to tell him, "this was my house first and I am the boss."

I think he understood. I do not know, it is hard to tell, he does not say much. Except for "mnh mnh mnh mnh" when he is hungry, tired, scared, or has to go "chop chop."

It was not long before I showed him how to play. I showed him how to run around the house from the living room to the kitchen, and I let him nip my ears. I just have to be sure to remind him as much as possible that I was here first and this is my house and I am the boss.

As long as Butters gets that, everything should be just fine. Time to go play again...

Something's Going On...

I have a feeling something BIG is about to happen. I can almost smell it.
