Kitschy

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are officially the longest days of the week now. My lawd. If Mondays and Fridays were this long I’d have written a novel by now! But I haven’t. I did sign up though. I have 0 words to my name, but I don’t care. It is a baby step into writing a novel next year.

I am very excited today about an ongoing conversation I’ve been having via email with one of my favorite authors. It turns out that she grew up in my area and her father was an illustrator during the tail end of the “Golden Age of Illustration.” How neat is that? No wonder Suzanne has chosen to live an inspired life, and helps inspire others to do the same.

I really want to participate in Illustration Friday tomorrow. Please bug me and tell me that my life depends on it. My mind and my hands need the conceptual drawing exercise.

I also need a photo of a woman wearing a 1950’s “circle” skirt, seated in a chair, from the profile point of view. This last doggie plate is really driving me crazy. I’ve drawn it over and over so many times, I’ve almost used an entire pad of tracing paper. I’m stuck. And it needs to be done, like, yesterday.

Once I get past that project I can finish up 3 more pirate drawings, then it is on to *fanfare please* children’s book illustration! Can you believe it? I cannot. God bless Katrina.

Oh, speaking again of illustration, have I introduced you to my old high school comrade in art, Tammy? Tammy and I hadn’t seen each other since her last day of dreadful Catholic high school. Then one day last month Tammy wrote me a very long email telling me that she had been following my journal for a little while now, and thought she should let me know. How great is that? We’re still getting reaquainted but in the meantime she has quit her big powerful creative director job in favor of a freelance art and writing career. Is this a major trend around here or what? Tammy has participated in Illustration Friday and I have been very smitten by her little illos. They’re kitschy. (Remember that one, Tammy? I did some research in the ol’ yearbook the other day…). So keep your eye out for Miss Tammy, she is on to big things and going big places. That is my prediction.

Ok, I’ve had enough of Thursday already. Come, Friday, come…
