On Wednesday, April 11, I read my manuscript, Time to Fly to three classes of Kindergartners and First Graders at Charles Drew School in West Philadelphia, as part of WePAC’s celebration of National Library Week. In the past 2 years, WePAC (West Philadelphia Alliance for Children) has reopened, staffed, and stocked dozens of libraries in underserved communities on a volunteer basis. Other writers, illustrators, and local celebrities who participated include: Gene Barretta, Brian Biggs, Becky Birtha, Lindsay Barrett George, Dan Gutman, Bob McLeod, Kathye Petrie, Matt Phelan, Deborah Kogan Ray, Michael Smerconish, Chrysa Smith, Pamela Tuck, David Wiesner, State Representative Michelle Brownlee, Cassandra Hayes, and NBC10 Anchor Lori Wilson. More info, photos, and video will appear soon on my blog. Help support WePAC spread literacy throughout the region with donations of time, money, books or supplies!
